Description

This course is designed for the Patrol Officer, new Detective, as well as anyone who is tasked with conducting investigations. The course details conducting investigations from how to handle the initial call from Uniform Patrol, all the way through to the court process. The training begins with responding to scenes as a detective, recognizing what needs to be done and then taking those actions. Proper crime scene security and management are discussed with a focus on collecting evidence and search and seizure issues. Case law regarding search and seizure is presented in interactive, practical scenarios. The class also includes a trip to the FDLE Crime Lab for a lecture and tour.
Sgt. Mike Ruggiero is the lead Instructor of this course. Sgt. Ruggiero supervises the Homicide Squad of the Orange County Sheriff's Office, one of the busiest in the State of Florida. Sgt. Ruggiero has been a detective with over 18 years and has experience in Narcotics, Persons, Sex Crimes, and Professional Standards, and also has conducted training for thousands of law enforcement, corrections, and security officers throughout the state.
